How many types of economic support exist?
Despite the various types of financial aid that have emerged from both the state and Social Security, the main ones and most requested by people unemployed due to the coronavirus pandemic are:
Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation (FPUC)
This type of compensation came into operation on April 16 and is focused on providing $600 dollars in additional weekly benefits for those who already receive unemployment benefits.
For this type of application, as well as for any other, you must meet certain requirements to be able to benefit, otherwise, you must apply for any other state support.
Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA)
This type of support opened for applications as of May 1, where the program provides unemployment benefits to those who do not qualify for regular unemployment, including self-employed workers and other categories of workers who normally cannot receive unemployment support and who on this occasion are being directly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation (PEUC)
This compensation was launched as of the week of June 29, which offers up to 13 additional weeks of unemployment support to those workers who have already exhausted their benefits and still cannot find income.
If you have already registered in the current unemployment program, you must continue submitting your weekly certifications so as not to lose the support provided to you.

How long do you have to work for a person to qualify for unemployment? What is the "monetary requirement"?
Whether or not you receive unemployment insurance depends on meeting the monetary requirement. This is guaranteed by reviewing wages earned during the last five complete calendar quarters.
Four consecutive quarters within that period must have income of at least $5,336.04 dollars and two of the four quarters must have income of at least $1,778.68 dollars.
These amounts are set annually based on the average weekly wages earned by workers. The amount of benefits and the time someone can collect is based on how much they earn.
What is the maximum weekly unemployment benefit?
As of June 1 and until May 31, 2021, the maximum weekly benefit amount for the state unemployment program has increased from $445 to $462.
People who apply for a new year of benefits from June 1 onwards will have a weekly benefit amount that will range between $77 and $445. People who already have an active unemployment claim will not see changes in their claim, as this only applies to new claims filed on June 1 or after that date.
Do immigrants and asylum applicants qualify for unemployment insurance?
If immigrants or asylum applicants have authorization to work in the U.S. and lose their job due to COVID-19, they must apply for unemployment. The MDOL will review the claim case by case, as it would with all other claims, and will make a determination regarding compliance with the requirements.
Why was my claim denied?
If a person's claim is denied, they will receive a written determination from the MDOL. There are a number of reasons why a claim may be denied. This is explained in the determination letter you will receive. After receiving it, you will have to follow the instructions in that written determination letter or, you can contact the labor attorneys at Conexión Legal so that your case is reviewed and a new application is made with all the necessary elements in order and with the certainty needed to obtain your approval.
